Careful characterization studies revealed that the so-obtained Pd nanoparticles were stabilized by an aluminum isopropoxide tetramer and 1,5-diphenyl-pentan-3-one, which was produced after reduction of the dba ligand from the organometallic precursor. Moreover, calcination of the obtained nanomaterial in air at 773 K for 2 h resulted in a nanocomposite material containing Pd nanoparticles embedded in Al2O3. This stabilization strategy opens new possibilities for the preparation of transition metal nanoparticles embedded in oxides.

The complexes are characterized by elemental analyses, mass spectrometry, 1H, 13C and 31P NMR spectroscopy together with the single crystal X-ray structure determination of 1a and 1d. The palladium atom in all the complexes occupies the centre of a slightly distorted square planar environment formed by a P atom, a P/S atom and two Cl atoms. The catalytic activities of 1a-1d investigated for Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reactions at room temperature exhibit higher yield of the coupling products than catalysed by PdCl2 itself. Among 1a-1d, the palladium complexes of bidentate phosphine (1a, 1b) show higher efficacy than their monosulfide analogues (1c, 1d). However, the recycling experiments with the catalysts for a selected coupling reaction between 4-bromobenzonitrile and phenylboronic acid exhibit that 1c and 1d are more efficient than 1a and 1b, which may be due to the donor effect of the P,S ligands during catalytic reaction.

In this study, two new conjugated polymers were synthesized including benzotriazole (BTz) as the acceptor unit and selenophene as the pi bridge donor segment. In this report, we describe the generation of remote allylic quaternary stereocenters beta, gamma, and delta relative to a carbonyl in high enantioselectivity. We utilize a redox-relay Heck reaction between alkenyl triflates and acyclic trisubstituted alkenols of varying chain-lengths. A wide array of terminal (E)-alkenyl triflates are suitable for this process. The utility of this functionalization is validated further by conversion of the products, via simple organic processes to access remotely functionalized chiral tertiary acid, amine, and alcohol products.
