A series of novel donor-acceptor type of molecules (2-6) based on dibenzo[a,c]phenazine were synthesized by employing a palladium = catalyzed C-N bond forming amination reaction in a good yield and were then fully characterized, whereby the optical properties of 2-6 were determined by UV-vis absorption, fluorescence spectroscopy, and the electrochemical properties by cyclic voltammetry. The absorption spectra of 2-6 showed intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) transitions in the range of 447-513 nm in solution. The HOMO and LUMO energy levels of 2-6 were in the range from ?5.03 to ?5.29 eV and ?2.75 to ?2.87 eV, respectively, with an electrochemical band gap within 2.26-2.45 eV. The HOMO energy levels of 2-6 are comparable with those of the most commonly used hole-transporting materials, which makes them potential candidates for hole-transporting materials in organic electronics.

Two thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) emitters with high synthetic yields were designed and synthesized. Both emitters, 10,10?-(5-(4,6-diphenyl-1,3,5-triazin-2-yl)-1,3-phenylene)bis(9,9-dimethyl-9,10-dihydroacridine) (TRZ-DDMAc) and 10,10?-(5-(4,6-diphenyl-1,3,5-triazin-2-yl)-1,3-phenylene)bis(9,9-diphenyl-9,10-dihydroacridine) (TRZ-DDPAc), showed excellent photophysical properties. Interestingly, both of the materials had a small energy difference between singlet and triplet levels, which confirmed that donor-acceptor based molecular design brought effective reverse intersystem crossing (RISC) to enable the TADF mechanism. The TADF characteristic was confirmed by a delay time of 10.32 and 10.37 mus for TRZ-DDMAc and TRZ-DDPAc, respectively. TRZ-DDPAc revealed a photoluminescence quantum yield of 79.7% in a doped film state. Moreover, several green OLED devices were fabricated by using different host materials along with various doping concentrations to ensure the optimal performance of each TADF material. The device with TRZ-DDPAc as an emitter (30%: DBFPO) exhibited excellent current and maximum external quantum efficiencies of 62.8 cd A-1 and 27.3%, respectively. Green colour emission was observed from all devices, which originated through the TADF mechanism.

Despite recent progress in novel and targeted therapies, multiple myeloma (MM) remains a therapeutically challenging incurable disease. The regulation of important cellular processes and its link to cancer presented Src as an attractive target for MM. We suggest a novel strategy to improve the treatment of MM and overcome the drug resistance for the current therapeutic agents by specific inhibition of Src in MM cells by Tris (Dibenzylideneacetone) dipalladium (Tris DBA). Tris DBA reduces proliferation, induces G1 arrest and apoptosis in MM cells. Tris DBA showed additive effect with proteasome inhibitors reducing proliferation, cell cycle signaling, and increasing apoptosis more than each drug alone. Tris DBA overcame hypoxia-induced effects such as enhanced chemotaxis or drug resistance to proteasome inhibitors by inhibition of HIF1alpha expression. Moreover, we found that Tris DBA is an effective anti-myeloma agent alone or in combination with other targeted drugs and that it reverses hypoxia-induced drug resistance in myeloma.
